Information on the Shining Rock Backpacking Trip…
Dates: May 24-27 (Memorial Day weekend)
- Bus will leave the church at 5:30pm on 5/24
- Return approximately 4pm on 5/27
Other Info:
- Everyone should bring a bag dinner for Friday evening.
- Class A is required for bus trips to and from
- Lunch will be provided by the troop for Monday prior to returning for home.
- Backpacks are required for all treks. Everyone should bring and prepare their own food for all meals except Monday lunch.
- Bear canisters will be provided by the troop, but are limited. Do not bring excess food. All scented toiletries (toothpaste, etc.) must also fit into the bear canisters.
- Packing list is on the Troop website. Pay attention to the weather forecast. Most groups will be camping at 5000-6000’ elevation which can range to 15+ degrees cooler and much windier than Winston-Salem, particularly at night and early morning.
- There are 4 treks planned – 2 Philmont Treks, 1 Medium Distance Trek, and 1 Raven Trek. The Raven Trek will have their own route appropriate to their skill level.
IMPORTANT: ALL SCOUTS ATTENDING THIS TRIP SHOULD ATTEND THE TROOP MEETING MONDAY, 5/20 FOR INSTRUCTIONS AND TO HELP PACK TROOP GEAR.
